
The North West region of England is made up of 5 counties – Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire, with nearly 7 million residents living in these 5 counties. The North West is bordered by the Irish Sea to the West, Scotland to the North, with the South being surrounded by neighbouring regions and Wales. To the East of the North West lies the beautiful low rising mountain range of the Pennines. Known as the backbone of England, the Pennines begins in around Derbyshire through to the Scottish border, separating the North West from Yorkshire and the North East.
There is over 1,000km of coastline in the North West, ideal for sun seekers, wildlife and sightseers. The coastline Boasts of having golden beaches, rolling sand dunes, nature reserves, seaside resorts and striking cliffs, meaning that there is plenty to see and do in this stunning region. The coastline is an ideal spot for golf, where it is home to many famous links golf courses which hold the famous Open Championship – Lytham & St Annes, Royal Birkdale, and Royal Liverpool to name a few.
Inland, you will come across many towns and cities, filled with history and tradition which documents its industrial and social heritage. Cities like Manchester and Liverpool have spent millions of pounds rejuvenating and developing their city, to host new modern attractions and events. The North West is home to a proud sporting background with famous stars and teams gracing their sport. The North West is also home to a host of famous musicians and bands including The Beatles, Oasis, The Coral and Take That to name a few.
Just off the mainland is the Isle of Man, which is not officially apart of the United Kingdom. The Isle of Man is most famous for holding the Isle of Man TT, long considered to be the "greatest motorcycle sporting event of the world”. The ‘TT’ takes place in late May to early June, and racing takes place in the streets around the whole island.
