There are a variety of sporting pursuits you can get involved with in Dubai. From water sports along the Jumeirah Beach to exploring all Dubai has to offer underwater by going diving or snorkeling. You can spend time in a luxury golf club and enjoy the use of the courses in the sun or if you are looking for an activity with more of an adrenalin rush, look no further than kite surfing or head to Ski Dubai to ski in the middle of the desert! Dubai began as a small fishing community along the coast of the Arabian Gulf on the site we now know as Dubai. The Bani Yas tribe settled at the mouth of the Creek in the early 19th century, which was a natural harbor, thus Dubai developed into a centre for the pearl and fishing trade. Dubai benefitted from stable rule in the twentieth century. The rulers fostered trade and commerce and guided the city’s expansion from a small fishing town to a modern state with a world renowned reputation for its modern communications, industrial infrastructure and glamorous city life. Dubai is now a landmark for innovation; it boasts the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa, which holds the world's highest mosque and swimming pool. Despite the city’s modern advances, its heart and soul is still rooted in the sand dunes of the Arabian deserts.

Dubai’s official language is Arabic and Arabic and English are commonly used in business and commerce. The languages Hindi and Urdu are also widely recognised and Islam is the official religion of the United Arab Emirates. Dubai is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, shown by the fact that only a small proportion of the population are national Emiratis because the expatriate community covers most of the population.

The United Arab Emirates is four hours ahead of GMT.
