One of the most popular visitor attractions for day-trippers from the coast, Mijas Pueblo is a picture postcard Andalucian town. The historic quarter is home to immaculate whitewashed terraced homes, churches and hermitages with shops surrounding a courtyard where visitors can relax, eat and drink. The area become well known internationally when it was used as one of the main locations in the 1967 movie Fathom starring Raquel Welch. The film shows scenes of the main square, bull ring, cafes and houses along with coastal shots of Nerja and other resorts including Torremolinos.
