Chestnut Barn in Tabua, Coimbra, Central Portugal, Portugal

Chestnut Barn has been attractively restored & furnished to provide comfortable, spacious home with a large private pool area. The ground floor is split level. There is a large fully equiped kitchen / dining room with steps leading up to the balconied sitting room.  From here double doors open onto the sun terrace area where wonderful views of the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed.  It has a built in BBQ area with storage and outdoor seating for upto 8. The staircase leads to the spacious landing, 2 good-sized bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom has a king-size bed. The second bedroom has twin beds. Both rooms have ample space for extra beds. Upstairs ceilings are beamed and timbered and the property is simply but tastefully decorated and furnished.    Outside there is a large tiled pool area with a toddler pool that has been walled in and was built in 2008.

It is part of the Quinta do Vale de Ferreiro with its 23 acres of terraced pastures and woodland, all available for the guests to use and enjoy.  We have waterfall with a natural swimming hole, various fruit trees that guest can help themselves to and a volley ball/ badmington area.  For 2012 we hope to have a boules are as well.  We hold weekly BBQs for guests and we make and sell english style sausages, bacon and hams. 

Chestnut barn is based in central Portugal, a 45 minute drive to Coimbra Portugal’s third largest city, an hour from the Serra Estrella Mountains where you can ski in the winter and mountain bike in the summer and just over an hour to the beach.  It has rolling pine clad hills for exploring on foot, by horse or vehicle, wide rivers for swimming and fishing, and farm land full of various fruits and vegetables including grapes and olives waiting for you to taste.  It is a region full of history with monuments, churches, and prehistoric remains, where traditional arts are still practised and mouth watering foods are made.

We are woring towards a greener way of living and have our own underground springs that feed the houses with water, we have soak away septic tanks and are hoping to have our own electricity in the near future.
