In a UK Post Office survey, Portugal has come out on top as the best family value destination in 2010 with the price of a meal falling by 63 percent compared to 2009.

The survey also revealed that participants are sick of excess baggage costs, high mobile phone roaming charges and over-priced meals, drinks and beach items.

Portugal came out on top as the best value family destination with prices in restaurants significantly lower than its European neighbours, as well as having the lowest cost across Europe for hiring a pedalo!

Other comparisons were made in which Portugal continued to beat its European friends Spain, Turkey, Bulgaria and Croatia. These included the cost of a cup of coffee in a cafe, the price of a bottle of still water from a supermarket and an English tabloid paper.

Portugal is receiving a lot of media attention due to its great value, with the Mirror proclaiming that it is 'this season's bargain hotspot' and the Sun saying 'Portugal pounds the competition to give you the best value for money this summer'.
