Now is a better time than ever to think about accommodation in London, if you have been lucky enough to get hold of events tickets or want to experience the excitement first-hand. This blog is the first of our series of guides to the different Olympics 2012 venues and the self-catering properties which are located nearby. Read on for the lowdown on an event which is sure to live long in the memory!

1. The Olympic Park complex, Stratford

Hosting the bulk of the London-based Olympics events, the purpose-built Olympic Park in Stratford includes a number of venues within its grounds. These include the Olympic Stadium, which will host athletics and Paralympic athletics; the BMX Track, for BMX bike events (to be made part of a community velopark after the Games); the Aquatics Centre, for swimming, diving and pentathlon; the Basketball Arena for basketball, handball and wheelchair rugby; the Handball Arena; and the Velodrome for track cycling.

The  Olympic Park will have excellent transport links across London and the South East of England. West Ham and Stratford Underground stations will provide the most convenient access from the London Underground, while the high-speed Javelin train service will link Stratford International Station (within the park) with St. Pancras International in a 6-minute journey running every 30 minutes. Holiday Rental Homes promotes a number of excellent self-catering properties within easy reach of Stratford and other 2012 venues in London; click here to find out more.
