Lyon
Known for its rich cuisine and its array of historical and architectural landmarks, Lyon is a bustling city which has become a major centre for banking and the pharmaceutical industry. Its large expanse contains a UNESCO World Heritage site, which contains within it a former Roman area, and a number of districts containing architecture from the 12th century to the Renaissance . The city is world-famous as a centre of some of the best cuisine in France, having historically been the base of some of the country's most famous chefs (such as Paul Bucose). Some of the traditional dishes you can expect to enjoy if you visit the city are pistachio sausage, coq au vin (chicken in red wine), gras double (tripe cooked with onions) and salade lyonnaise (lettuce with bacon, croutons and a poached egg). As well as great restaurants (some of which we detail below), the city is home to a number of superb art galleries and museums (see the link below). Whatever you choose to do during your time in this vibrant city, you can be sure you'll never be bored. Best restaurants in Lyon - our recommendations
