Veneto is a North-Eastern region in Italy by the Adriatic Sea. It is divided into seven provinces which include Belluno, Padua, Rovigo, Treviso, Venice, Verona and Vicenza. While Venice remains a very popular city that tourists flock to in Veneto, other places that are also popular are Padua, Lake Garda, Verona and the ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Veneto is one of the most technologically advanced and wealthiest regions in Italy. Venice historically achieved great wealth and Shakespeare famously immortalised its merchants in the pages of one of his plays, The Merchant of Venice. The city is culturally and historically rich. The opera season in Verona, along with the numerous art galleries and architecture attracts those with cultural interests, as do the Roman ruins here. Padua is another area with impressive art and architecture and the frescoes by artist and architect Giotto di Bondone are simply stunning.
The pretty landscapes and towns continue to attract visitors worldwide while exploring the lagoon of Venice by boat offers great sight-seeing, wildlife and bird-watching opportunities. The Dolomites (a mountainous area in north-east Italy) are perfect for winter skiing or mountaineering, hiking and cycling during warmer weather. The Adriatic Sea or Lake Garda allows you to undergo several water sports and swimming.
Cuisine in Veneto is often locally sourced due to its vast areas of agriculture which grow maize, wheat, olives and fruits such as peach orchards. Polenta, a semolina type dish made from cornmeal is especially popular here often accompanying a rice, meat and vegetable dish. Speciality foods here include baccala, a dried cod fish, fresh pasta called bigoli and the grappa liqueur. Venetian cuisine in a nutshell is simple, tasty and varied and far from plain, even rice is always served with other ingredients. Veneto is also a great wine-producing region.
Weather
The climate in Veneto varies according to the landscape. Temperatures in the mountains are lower which means cold winters and refreshing summers, while the climate by the lakes is milder. Summers are warm and pleasant.

Transport
There are several flights to Veneto which are cheap to come by, most of which land at Venice Marco Polo Airport while some land at Treviso Airport.
Internal travelling is made easy by train and bus connections that make it easy to travel from town to town. Of course, public boats and gondolas are a great way to explore cities such as Venice.
