Dubai Transportation Guide: The primary airport for travelling to Dubai is Dubai International Airport, where you can find some of the best duty-free shopping in the world. It is situated 4km from the city and is well served by Emirates Airlines, the world-renowned international airline of the United Arab Emirates and many other International Airlines including British Airways, Virgin Airlines and many more.  Abu Dhabi airport can also be used as an alternative to get to Dubai, it is situated about 80km from Dubai but for visitors staying in the Jumeirah or Jebel Ali areas it is an easy journey by car.

The most popular and frequently used means of transport is using the extensive taxi system in Dubai. The government-operated Dubai Transport Corporation operates in cream-coloured taxis. Private taxis are also available in Dubai, with popular companies being Cars Taxi, National Taxi and Metro Taxi. Taxis can usually be found with ease, anywhere at any time but difficulties can be experienced during large events, as expected. 

busDubai has a large bus system run by the Dubai Municipality. The system has 59 unique routes and transports over  200,000 people each week.  The government has issued plastic, swipable ‘e-go’ cards for use on buses.

 The metro is also in use in Dubai. It is an extensive train network that runs from 6am to 11pm Saturday to Thursday and from 2pm to midnight on Fridays, which differs during the time of the festival of Ramadan celebrations. Fares for the Dubai Metro range from a minimum Dh1.8 to a maximum Dh6.5 for a single journey, depending on the distance covered and there is only one fare to complete the journey using the Metro and bus.

Self-drive cars are available from car rental companies for visitors who have an international driving license or visitors without an international driving license who can obtain a temporary local driving license.
