The Costa Blanca (also known as the White Coast) is home to many beautiful sandy beaches and with an average of 300 days of sunshine per year; it is an ideal year round destination. There are a number of activities on offer for those who don’t want to spend the whole time soaking up the sun; golf is very popular, there is an abundance of nature to explore and there is a rich historical background to discover.
The Costa Blanca is said to have some of the best beaches in Spain. There are a large number of ‘blue flag’ beaches which are very clean and have lifeguards on duty, making them ideal for families to visit. For those willing to spend time exploring the area, it is possible to find small and quiet secluded beaches, which is perfect to get away from it all and enjoy the beautiful weather in a peaceful atmosphere.
By travelling slightly inland from the beaches of Costa Blanca, there are a number of beautiful Nature Parks to visit. These areas have great landscapes for outdoor activities including; walking, cycling and horse riding and are also home to a vast array of Spanish wildlife.
The Costa Blanca has a deep history and a large number of historical monuments and towns to visit. Due to its location on the Mediterranean coastline, Costa Blanca has been invaded by a number of important civilizations who have all left part of their own culture behind. Many of the towns and villages used to rely on fishing, agriculture and salt production for their income, but in recent times, they now rely almost solely on tourism.
Costa Blancan cuisine is fantastic and many of the dishes have been passed down through the families for hundreds of years and all include fresh and locally produced ingredients. Tapas is a highly popular dish in Costa Blanca and each city and village has its own specialty. Paella, arroz a la alicantina and arroz y costar are popular main dishes, the main ingredient being rice, this is complimented by fish, meat or vegetables. As a dessert, Turrón is a famous dish in Costa Blanca, which is a great accompaniment to the local wines. There are also a large number of ‘English style’ pubs and cafes, which offer a variety of traditional English food, especially a full English breakfast.
