The Gulf (or Bay) of Naples is an area by the Tyrrhenian Sea, west of the Mediterranean Sea and includes the islands Capri, Ischia and Procida. Popular towns close by include Naples and Sorrento, which are great places from which to explore the Gulf. It is part of the region of Campania and the province of Naples.
The Gulf of Naples is noted for its scenic beauty and has a deep history shaped by volcanic activity which is how Ischia and Procida formed. The area is popular with tourists for its historical and natural sites, including the towns of Pompei and Herculaneum, while looking to the east offers a great view of the Mount Vesuvius. It is also popular with people looking to capitalise on the health and beauty benefits from the various products sourced from the volcano. It is a lively area with the residents having a penchant for music, dance and dramatic arts.
Reaching the Bay of Naples is easy enough, with easyJet, British Airways, Air One and BMI providing flights to the area from the UK. Once you’re there, the chaotic traffic means driving around is not for the faint hearted and the train is advised as a mode of transport for tourists, usually an effective and reliable service.
