Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic and one of the largest cities in Europe. A magical city whose elegant architecture includes cathedrals, bridges, towers and domes, Prague sits by the Vltava River which only adds to the picturesque view of the skyline.

Prague is a modern city in a medieval setting, with cobbled streets and historic religious architecture and its city centre is a hotbed for culture, fine dining and shopping. Attractions here include the world famous Prague Castle, one of the largest castles in the world and dating back to the 9th Century. The Prague Astronomical Clock is built in a tower of the Town Hall here, dating back to the 15th Century and a point of interest due to its intricate design and construction. The Jewish ghetto Josefov is another place worth visiting, which contains the Old New Synagogue, a gothic style building that is the oldest active synagogue in the world.

The shopping is great in Prague and definitely attracts tourists, with flight prices often rising in December time due to the popularity of the Christmas markets.  There are numerous shopping malls in the city centre, and street vendors set up stalls by the Charles Bridge area where you can find some unique and interesting purchases.

Weather: Prague has typically continental weather, which means cold winters and hot summers. May and September offer comfortable, mild weather which is the best time to visit for sightseeing and shopping. Rainfall is fairly constant throughout the year and generally light though spring and autumn sees heavier rain.

Transport: The transport system in Prague is one of the best in Europe. The buses, trams and metro cover most of the city which makes travelling around it to see the sights very easy. The metro especially is recommended to get around, with a service running on average every 2-4 minutes during peak hours. Their fast and efficient service guarantees to get you to your destination in very little time. A Prague Card is worth buying to gain access to numerous tourist attractions.

Ruzyne Airport is the airport that serves Prague and is the biggest in the Czech Republic. It is situated 6 miles from Prague city centre. Flights from the UK are less than two hours and are generally quite cheap to come by.

The Czech Republic is a small country in Central Europe, which became independent in 1993 after a volatile past of occupation. It is a country rich in culture with a medieval charm, and its capital city of Prague is popular as a film location due to the abundance of historic architecture. It is also the birthplace of famous writers Franz Kafka and Milan Kundera, art nouveau artist Alfons Mucha and composers Antonin Dvorák and Bedrich Smetana, which only adds to its cultural reputation.

The country also has natural springs in abundance, which means mineral water is plentiful. For traditional fare try the Knedlíky, a popular dish of Czech dumplings made from potatoes.
