Capri Holiday & Travel Guide

The island of Capri is situated in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is part of the Campania region and Province of Naples and is a popular haunt for writers, artists and philosophers. Capri is also a popular destination amongst tourists and gets utterly swamped in the summer months.

A popular feature of the island is the Blue Grotto cave. The light that floods the cave is reflected through the sea water creating a magical blue illumination. The cave’s opening is too small to admit motorised boats and visitors are transferred to a smaller boat when they reach the cave to allow further exploration. The Monte Tiberio is also a beautiful site, and is where the Villa Jovis is located. The Gardens of Augustus are at the top of the Island and offer breathtaking views of the cliffs, rocks and sea.

The town of Anacapri is worth exploring, as are the following historical and natural sites: The San Michele Villa, the Villa Lysis which has a scandalous history, Faraglioni, a natural site with three formations that have separated from the main cliff due to erosion, and the Capri Philosophical Park.

Events to look out for are: The Capri Art Film Festival, the Capri Tango Festival and the Capri International Film Festival, relatively new cultural events but still very popular. There is also a harvest festival in September, and a Folklore festival in August.
