The number of bowls clubs appearing along the Algarve is steadily increasing, with the sport becoming evermore popular amongst residents.

Praia da Luz is the latest area to witness the construction of a new club, expected to be ready by early September.

The new club will be named the Vila de Luz Bowls Club and will be an all-members club run by the members and in partnership with the Valverde Restaurant in Luz - the organisation which owns the land on which the new club is to be built.

The man in charge of club membership, Stephen Lee is excited about the new club and says: 'Anybody who has the urge to come along and play is welcome at the club'.

The funding for the club is solely from the members but they have an array of social events planned to help further boost the funds. Members will also be required to pay fees to the club for the differing types of membership levels.

The construction of the plot started on 26th July and Stephen Lee expects that this new club will be the central point for all bowlers in western Algarve.

The club will hope to become part of the wider bowling community and it has already applied to join the Algarve Bowls League which includes a winter league.
